We know that the transition to parenthood can be overwhelming in many ways - you've spent months, maybe years, planning to become parents and then suddenly you realize the plan is to bring a baby home after all of this! The idea of giving birth can be extremely daunting, whether it's your first time or you have a history of birth or medical trauma in your story. There are so many decisions to be made and so many people expressing their opinions about what is best. When you finally do make a decision about what you want, there's also no guarantee that your birth will go according to your hopeful design.....it can feel overwhelming and anxiety producing.
... and this is where birth planning support
with our expert staff comes in!
We will get to know you a little bit more and what you're hoping for with your upcoming birth. Then we'll help you develop a birth plan that feels good for you, prioritizes your mental health, and can adapt to changes that might pop up. We will explore communication skills, grounding exercises, and how to cope with the unexpected.
In the first session (45-60 minutes), we'll get to know a little bit more about your family story and reproductive experience. We'll provide psychoeducation about what to expect and introduce some key concepts to help create your individualized birth plan.
In the second session (45-60 minutes), we'll formulate your unique birth plan to help you feel empowered and prepared for the unknowns that come with giving birth. You'll finish with a short, targeted worksheet you can share with your care team to ease this milestone. Please note: this is not focused on birth interventions or a substitute for childbirth classes, but instead a focus on your emotional well being during labor and delivery.
You'll leave with a plan, lots of resources, and a touch-point to return to our office if you're interested in additional support and ongoing therapy.
Sound like a good plan?
We recommend scheduling these appointments early in your third trimester, between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy, so you have time to reflect and incorporate some of the perspective shifts and internal mindset changes, and because babies sometimes have a mind of their own about arrival! Most families schedule the two sessions one week apart, but provider availability and individual preferences may vary.
At this time, these sessions are not billable to insurance. Insurance requires a diagnosis and determination of medical necessity; while we wish this benefit was more widely available and accessible, it does not meet the requirements for insurance billing. The package is $200 and can be used with your HSA/FSA card.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a medical assessment or consultation, and not a substitute for medical care or birthing classes. It cannot be used as a replacement or substitute for either.
