We know that the transition to parenthood can be overwhelming in many ways - you've spent months, maybe years, planning to become parents and then suddenly you realize the plan is to bring a baby home after all of this! While there is significant time spent on managing pregnancy and getting to birth, it's hard to make the leap to postpartum - everyone says you'll be sleep deprived and it depends on your baby's temperment which makes it harder to make plans....
... and this is where postpartum planning
with our expert staff comes in!
After decades in the field, we have a tried and true method for helping you and your partner put basic plans in place for the first two-three weeks postpartum, when parents are at biggest risk for experiencing the baby blues or the start of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD).
In the first session (45-60 minutes), we'll get to know a little bit more about your family story and reproductive experience. We'll provide psychoeducation about what to expect and introduce some key concepts to help create your individualized postpartum plan.
In the second session (45-60 minutes), we'll formulate your unique postpartum plan to minimize mood and anxiety symptoms and maximize sleep, support, and self-care/couple care for this major life change! While parenthood comes with no guarantees
You'll leave with a targeted plan, lots of resources, and a touch-point to return to our office if you're interested in additional support and ongoing therapy.
Sound like a good plan?
We recommend scheduling these appointments between 30 and 34 weeks of pregnancy so you can put plans in place, and still have a little time to enjoy some quiet before baby's arrival; most families schedule the two sessions one week apart, but provider availability and individual preferences may vary.
At this time, these sessions are not billable to insurance. Insurance requires a diagnosis and determination of medical necessity; while we wish this benefit was more widely available and accessible, it does not meet the requirements for insurance billing. The package is $200 and can be used with your HSA/FSA card.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a medical assessment or consultation, and not a substitute for medical care or birthing classes. It cannot be used as a replacement or substitute for either.
